Hey guys! I'm wanting to replace my Quadro M4000 GPU with another GPU in my HP Z440, E5-1650 V3 with a GTX 1080 TI but am running into an issue with power.
I would like to use "option 1" from the Z440 GPU upgrade Youtube video for running power cables, specifically to use 2 male 6 pin power connectors and adapting to an 8 pin to plug into the GPU. After digging into the PC, the M4000 is using one of the 6 pin connectors while the 2nd 6 pin is powering the GPU supplementary fan. Would it be okay to use a splitter (dual 6 pin male to single 6 pin female) so I can still power the fan, while also using two 6 pins to adapt to the 8 pin GPU power cable? The 6 pin GPU cable would be powered by 2 SATA connectors.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

1080ti is dual 8 pin correct? And I'm assuming you have a 700 watt PSU? If so use a 6 to 8 pin adapter on each of the PSU 6 pins and plug them into the GPU. I don't know what kind of fan you have that takes a 6 pin pcie connector but I'd grab that off of one of the sata plug as that can't draw much.

Re: HP Z440 GPU Upgrade - Power Connector Issue
Hey Frank! The 1080TI is a 6 and 8 pin connector and the z440 does have a 700w PSU.
So my particular Z440 has a GPU auxiliary cooling fan at the bottom front of the case that uses one of the two 6 pin PCIe connectors.
Thanks for your suggestion...makes a ton of sense. Will let you know how it works out! Be well!

Re: HP Z440 GPU Upgrade - Power Connector Issue
On the 700 watt PSU it looks like each 6 pin has its own 18 amp rail. So no there's no reason to try and grab power else where for the GPU. The 2 6 pins are basically just as powerful as 2 8 pins. So ya the only things you need are 1- 6 pin to 8 pin adapter and 1- Sata to 6 pin adapter for the fans. Should work just fine.
Would you mind posting a picture of your auxiliary fan setup. Just to satisfy my curiosity.

Re: HP Z440 GPU Upgrade - Power Connector Issue
Good morning,
Okay...just got into my office and had another look at the GPU fan and it seems I messed up. Turns out the fan has two 6-pin sized sockets, but what they truly are is just storage sockets. There are no electrical connections on the backside. As I initially opened the case, I found one of the 6-pin connectors plugged into the socket...so I assumed it was used to run the fan. Pretty good "duh" moment on my part.
Adding some pics so you can see what I'm talking about.
Needless to say, all is good on my part now that I've managed to extract my head from my rear end... Thanks all!

Sneaky sneaky lol. Ya so now you need even less parts. 1 6 to 8 pin adapter and your golden.
