5 years ago I was given a Dell T3600 workstation which after the companies engineer took out their essentials, they did leave an unplugged h310 raid card, was given to me.
After moving and finally having time and space, I came across this sweet site. https://www.greenpcgamers.com
Original workstation T3600:
Intel Xeon E5-1650 6C 3.2Ghz 12MB Processor
4 x 8GB DDR3 modules (32GB)
CDRW/DVD via SATA0
Samsung 250GB ssd win7 pro SATA1.
AMD Radeon HD 5700
After visiting this site, I hit up ebay and Amazon.
Instead of the recommended Samsung 860 Evo 1TB drive, I purchased two 1 TB 860 pro drives and the recommended 1TB M.2 Samsung 960 SSD with PCIE adapter.
Using a WavLink device, I cloned the 250GB boot drive to one of the 2.5" 860 Pro 1TB Drive, then had to use disk management to extend the drives. I installed the pcie and 1TB M.2 Samsung 960 SSD and had to find the drivers for it and the system also recognized it.
Finally, I installed the extra Samsung 860 pro 1TB SSD using HDD0 which is a blue colored plug on the main board. The BIOS recognizes it and after some messing with drivers and updates so did windows 7 pro. I now had 3 TB of storage and I was stoked!!!
I finally got my hands on window's 10 pro boot disk after securing the original activation key. Installed it and it all went smoothly I had to reinstall some drivers. I am not done with the upgrades either. This all transpired within this last month of July 2025.
Per this site I decided to max out the ram to 64gb, the cpu to that Intel Xeon E5-2687W 8C 3.1Ghz 20MB 8GTs Processor and maybe adding an after market Phantek cpu fans if it fits, which is the only thing still on its way.
Also, I am eyeing an RTX2070 Super GPU on eBay. Most importantly I want to add more HDD the plugs are there but here's my problem and why this long post. This is going to be my work station for editing and 3D printing, and gaming. Well I at least hope so.
The BIOS still recognizes the 3rd SSD connected to the HDD0 blue plug on the main board. Now I don't think it's damaged again looks like BIOS still sees it. But now Windows 10 Pro doesn't and I don't want to move forward with Windows 11 pro install until I can have Windows 10 recognize this 3rd drive and potentially 2 more. I bought that 5.25 Driver caddy for two more 2.5" SSD drives. But I hope not to use the raid card any help will greatly be appreciated.
I've included BIOS photos. Thank you all again awesome site, once I get this work station worked out I am thinking of the Dell5820 to build a home server and network, also for gaming and editing.
