Hi
Are there versions with and without the wires?
has a cooler with a wire.
has a cooler without a wire.
Apart from possibly not dropping a fan profile by the cable being connected, is there a difference? Can the cable be added to the unit without one?

Re: Z840 - Z Cooler
To be honest, this is the first time i've seen them. I'll do some research on my end and see what i can find out.
[EDIT]
Sorry for taking so long to reply. Aside from asking the official HP forums And what I've gleaned based on the photos and the videos you showed I don't have a proper answer for you. I found one with a cable on eBay but it looks like a temp monitor (it don't look like a fan connector).
If I find out anything else I'll post it here but they do have my curiosity now .

Re: Z840 - Z Cooler
The connector is supposed to be "grounding" so the header tells the motherboard it's connected, and to apply relevant cooling.
I'm just confused as to why some have wires and some don't (worst case is you get better cooling and higher fan speeds).
I've now got a pair of the wired ones on my desk - pending a pair of E5-2699v4's arriving (got v3's presently - but I've upgraded RAM to 2400Mhz sticks and it's limited to 2333Mhz due to the v3).

Re: Z840 - Z Cooler
Ah, thanks for the info. This was the first time i've seen heatsinks that did that, or needing a ground for that matter.
